GUMO is a “non-band”: Three musicians, three different cities in two different continents.
The band GUMO started in Tuscany in the early 2000s with three musicians: Alberto Serafni, Manuel Schicchi and Juri De Luca.
In 2007, the frst album “Are You Sure?” was released by Midfnger Record Label under the name “THE GUMO”.
At the same time, the trio began a prolifc collaboration with the Texan singer songwriter Vanessa Peters under the name “Ice Cream On Mondays”.
Vanessa Peters & Ice Cream on Mondays recorded three albums: “Thin Thread” 2005, “Little Films” 2006 and “Sweetheart, Keep Your Chin Up” 2009 (this last one was nominated for “best album” and “best band” at the Texas Music Awards that year), and started a restless touring activity around Europe and USA with an average of 200 concerts per year until 2010.
After that, Alberto Serafni moved to Austin TX, which made keeping the band alive very tricky.
Juri De Luca moved to Milan, while Manuel Schicchi remained in Tuscany where he had the chance to collaborate, as a guitar player, with artists like Max Weinberg and Roy Bittan (E- Street Band), Salim Nourallah and Marco Parente, among others.
Over the years, the three bandmates would occasionally reunite during summer breaks in Castiglion Fiorentino, their hometown in Tuscany, where they would keep writing and recording new songs.
The ten tracks on the new album “The Dark and The Water” come from those “summer sessions”, and the band name has changed to “GUMO”.
The result is a mix of infuences: a jangle-pop that recalls the epic of the “C86 mixtapes” and the music scene of Olympia, WA, but also owes a lot to Velvet Underground’s art rock, Pavement, The Eels, REM, and American folk-rock.
“The Dark and The Water” was released on Friday, October 16, 2020 by Fresh Yo! Record Label
